It is with great honor and pleasure that I welcome you to the first edition of AMUN (AVEDO Model of United Nations), which will take place on July 4, 5, and 6 at the Hesperia Hotel. AMUN seeks to be an experience that transcends the debates and opinions of individual delegates and represents the true essence of diplomacy.
But what is the true meaning of diplomacy?
Wars in the Middle East, such as the conflict between Israel and Palestine, humanitarian crises, such as the terrible situation in Sudan, and weak institutions around the world, such as those of failed democracies, reinforce now more than ever the true call for a more connected humanity through diplomacy. However, this great tool with the potential to build world peace is being left behind by many nations around the world. Day by day, the art of being a diplomat is slowly becoming a mere formality.
At AMUN, we strive to help each delegate discover their own unique meaning of diplomacy. Creating new friendships, debating global issues, and intellectual growth are some of the things AMUN delegates will gain from their experience. Through our highly qualified staff, our international themes, and our hyper-realistic production, AMUN delegates will stop being students for three days and become true diplomats.
Defining the meaning of diplomacy isn't something that one person can do alone. However, at AMUN, we want all participants to join together to rewrite the meaning of this global art.
